How To Properly Clean Your Makeup Brushes & Kit

Having cleaning products and brushes are necessary to make sure that your face is  not causing build up on your skin or bacteria in your products. Not cleaning your brushes or kit is huge part of why people break out when where make up. Think of this step when you you do your skincare routine every day, what is the point if you going to reapply those germs on fresh skin. Here are some things to know when sanitizing your products and brushes!

Is Quick Brush Cleaner Enough?

No, and here is why ! This will not effectively clean your brushes, even if you spray this down your brushes with 70% isopropyl alcohol. This is only good is you want to remove any pigment off your brush. You will want to deep clean your brushes after every use if you want to achieve healthy skin.

How to Deep Cleaning your Brushes?

Wipe down the brush handle with a Clorox wipe. You want to use anti bacterial dish soap and the smallest bit of 100% olive oil to keep your brushes soft (I use Dawns Dish Soap). You want to lather up your brushes in lukewarm soapy water with a brush cleaner mat troughly then rise your brushes back in lukewarm water. Grab a towel fold it horizontally until you towel looks thick, you want to make sure when your setting your brushes to dry that the bristols of brushes are not touching the towel because moister creates bacteria. So hang bristols off the towel to dry. After drying, spray down the brushes with 70% isopropyl alcohol.

How Often Should I Clean My Brushes

Cleaning your personally makeup brushes, you ideally need to clean them after every use if you really want if you decrease break outs. Make sure that you put your clean brushes separately from any dirty brushes to keep the brushes fresh as possible!

As for MUA’s it’s necessary clean your brushes every night when you get home from work. You don’t risk transferring any bacteria to your next client, it can lead to bad infections.

If you are first building as an makeup artist and your business is slow, wash your brushes at least once a week. This will prevent and lint or any build-up bacteria from happening on your next client. Your client deserves to feel calm and at ease when she sits in your chair.

How to Clean your Makeup Kit and products

Wipe down your products with a Clorox wipe and spray down your pigments with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Let it air dry completely down before cleaning any mirrors with the same 70% isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel.

Why do we use 70% isopropyl alcohol ?

We use 70% isopropyl alcohol because 80% isopropyl alcohol drys down way to fast & 60% isopropyl alcohol is not strong enough. Because 80% isopropyl alcohol drys down way to fast it does not completely sanitize the pigments.
